Het zal vrijwel niemand interesseren, maar omdat dit mijn persoonlijke blog is neem ik de vrijheid om zo af en toe ook een echt persoonlijk berichtje op te nemen. Zoals bijvoorbeeld dit persbericht waarin mijn benoeming als partner bij Bird & Bird wordt bekendgemaakt. Het is niet helemaal zonder betekenis, althans niet voor mij. Vandaar.
Bird & Bird boosts Comms team with partner promotion
6th June 2006. International law firm Bird & Bird has reinforced its Communications team with the promotion of Gerrit-Jan Zwenne to the firm’s partnership. Based in the firm’s Dutch office, communications and data protection specialist, Gerrit-Jan will provide a significant boost to the firm’s expanding international Communications team. Along with Gerrit-Jan, a total of nine Bird & Bird lawyers across the firm’s international offices were promoted to the partnership this year bringing the total number of partners to 134.
Gerrit-Jan joined Bird & Bird from Houthoff Buruma in 2001. He has expanded both the firm’s Dutch communications and data protection practices – the latter which he has been heading since he joined. Gerrit-Jan acts for major clients in the communications sector in a large number of high profile cases such as industry actions of groups of fixed and mobile operators, important regulatory proceedings and infrastructure transactions. He is also an associate professor at the University of Leiden teaching data protection and communications law.
Commenting on his appointment, Marjolein Geus, joint managing partner of the firm’s Dutch office and head of the Dutch team’s communications team said:
